MIC Shenzhen Future Tech Sprint
Three-day, proposal-led exploration of how research, product design and operations connect in Shenzhen.
Ask MIC about this experience ↗From electronics markets and makers to waterfront parks and new neighbourhoods, Shenzhen lets you see not only what China creates, but how ideas move from conversation to the everyday.
Shenzhen · city in motion
Huaqiangbei · everyday invention
Design · creative culture
Shenzhen is not a finished picture of the future. It is a place where the future keeps being tested.
What makes this city distinctive is not a single tower or technology. It is the proximity of inventors, manufacturers, designers, entrepreneurs and people building new lives. Spend time here and the links become visible: a prototype meets a supply chain; a former industrial site finds a creative use; a dense metropolis makes room for mangroves and the sea.
Huaqiangbei’s electronics market is one way into the city’s larger story. Shenzhen’s strength lies in the relationships among design, sourcing, engineering and production, and in the speed with which people learn from each other.
For visiting teams, the value is in asking better questions: What makes iteration fast? Who connects an idea to a factory? How does a product become a business?

Shenzhen's story begins with movement: migration, new opportunities and neighbourhoods shaped by people from across China. Visit a creative quarter or an older urban district and this larger history becomes tangible.
The contrast between a former factory and a contemporary design studio is not just aesthetic. It reveals how the city repurposes spaces, skills and ambitions.

Along Shenzhen Bay, mangroves, walking paths, residents and migratory birds share the edge of a dense metropolis. It is a striking reminder that planning for the future also means caring for the places where people pause.
Shenzhen's coastal life offers an essential counterpoint to factories and laboratories: an opportunity to consider how a fast city designs space for ecology and everyday wellbeing.
