Make the hotpot base
Apron on, wok in hand. Guided by a local master, you’ll stir-fry beef tallow, chillies, Sichuan peppercorns and secret spices into your own Chongqing hotpot base — then taste the broth you made.
Chongqing · Full-day food & city experience
Where every street is a cliff — and every meal tells a story.

A city built in layers
Chongqing is a vertical maze where the Yangtze and Jialing Rivers carve a metropolis into the mountains.
What looks like the ground floor may be twenty-two storeys above another street. Buildings have entrances on different levels, stone stairs slip beneath skyscrapers, and getting lost is part of the experience.
Its rivers once made Chongqing one of China’s most important trading ports. Dockworkers, boat crews and labourers shaped a food culture as rugged as the landscape. Hotpot was not a trend; it was a survival instinct.
We’ve eaten our way through the city to curate a full-day journey — from a backstreet kitchen and old river-port lanes to the glowing skyline of Hongyadong.
What you’ll do
Food opens the door. The streets tell the rest.

Apron on, wok in hand. Guided by a local master, you’ll stir-fry beef tallow, chillies, Sichuan peppercorns and secret spices into your own Chongqing hotpot base — then taste the broth you made.
Local ritual · Xiaomian
Master Gong’s pea and minced-pork noodles layer handmade noodles, slow-cooked yellow peas, savoury pork, silky tofu pudding and chilli oil. Bold at first bite; deeply comforting underneath.
Shared table · Jianghu cuisine
Before hotpot travelled the world, locals gathered around honest dishes made for sharing: tender steamed pork belly, braised beef, seasonal vegetables, rice and tofu — the food that fuelled a river city.
On foot · Old mountain city
From Jiefangbei to Daijia Alley, stone staircases climb beneath glass towers. River-port lanes, wartime history and everyday homes reveal a city where every level belongs to a different chapter.
Neighbourhood favourite · Dinner
Sit where Chongqing locals actually eat. Rich beef-tallow broth, blazing chillies and numbing peppercorns turn dinner into a ritual — communal, unhurried and unmistakably Chongqing.
After dark · Iconic view
See the layered stilt-houses glow between mountain and river, with Qiansimen Bridge glittering beyond. We pause at a carefully chosen viewpoint for the skyline at its most cinematic.
Finale · Handmade dessert
After a day of fire and pepper, finish with a traditional sweet near Hongyadong. It’s a quiet last note — and proof that the city knows exactly when to soften.
The route may shift with daily vendor operations and availability. The quality, depth and flavour of the experience never will.
